There are many different types of sound healing instruments. While both work through vibration and frequency, the experience of each can feel very different.
Neither instrument is "better" than the other. Both crystal bowls and gong baths offer powerful sound healing benefits in different ways. It really depends on the person, the experience they are looking for, and what their body and nervous system need at that moment.
CRYSTAL SINGING BOWLS
Crystal bowls from my personal experience are softer, clearer, and more delicate in their sound. They can feel calming, heart-opening, and meditative. The tones are more focused and often create a gentle sense of stillness.
THE GONG
The gong feels different — much more immersive and full-bodied. Rather than only hearing the sound, many people physically feel the vibrations moving through the body. The sound can feel expansive, grounding, and deeply restorative for the nervous system.
WHO BENEFITS MOST FROM GONG SOUND THERAPY?
I personally work mainly with the gong because of how deeply it helps people relax and let go. Many clients tell me they leave feeling lighter afterwards or notice that tightness in their body has softened significantly during the session.
For people who struggle to slow down, switch off mentally, or fully rest, gong sound therapy can be incredibly supportive. The vibrations give the mind something to focus on, which often makes it easier to settle into relaxation than traditional meditation alone.
